How many animals are extincted?

According to the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), there have been 902 documented extinctions since the year 1500. However, it is estimated that the actual number of extinctions is much higher, with some scientists suggesting that as many as 1 million species may have gone extinct in the last 500 years.

The main cause of extinctions is habitat destruction, which occurs when natural areas are converted for human uses such as agriculture, logging, and development. Other major causes include hunting and over-exploitation, climate change, pollution, and invasive species.

The extinction crisis is a serious problem that is threatening the health of our planet and its ability to support life. We need to take urgent action to protect endangered species and their habitats if we want to prevent further extinctions.
