Instructions
Choose a reputable breeder from which to buy the miniature calf.
Select a reputable veterinarian who specializes in cattle -- miniature cattle in particular.
Use hay to supplement the miniature calf's diet of pasture grass.
Build a shelter for when the calf is outside in the pasture. A growing calf needs protection against rain, sleet and intense sun.
Provide a fresh water source nearby available to the calf at all times. At least one trough that automatically refills itself should be installed in the pasture to ensure that the calf can keep itself hydrated.
Take the calf to the vet for annual checkups. The vet will administer essential shots, such as Vision 8 (for the prevention of blackleg and tetnus), and another to prevent worms.
Tips on How to Raise a Miniature Calf
Miniature calves can be raised for breeding, competing, beef, milk and as hobby farm pets. The differences between each type of miniature calf are most evident in the animal's genetics and price. No matter where they will end up later on in life, it's important to properly care for miniature cattle, from the time they are young calves.
