Things You'll Need
- Sharp toothless knife
- Gloves
- Bucket
- Street Cone
Instructions
Cut the tip of your street cone off so that you can slid your hand and extend your fist through the top hole. This ensures that the hole is large enough to fit your chicken's head through but small enough to keep the head still. You will use the cone as a grip to hold your chicken while you humanely kill it.
Test your knife's sharpness by attempting to make a 1/2-inch cut on a carrot with a single cut. If your knife is able to do this, your knife will make a clean cut to the chicken's throat.
Place your bucket in an area where you can hold the chicken's head above the bucket with relative ease when you are holding the chicken.
Put on your gloves and pick up your chicken by gripping it from the sides and clamping each hand on a wing. When you pick it up, push one wing close to your chest and wrap your free arm around its feet. By pushing it close to your chest, your limit its moment as well as calm it down.
Place the cut traffic cone over your chicken gently so that the chicken's head is sticking out from the top hole. Gently rotate the cone sideways to a 70 degree angle and slowly slide the traffic cone onto the chicken so that the chicken's head is sticking out where you cut the tip. Although your chicken will be unable to struggle since you are holding both wings, covering the chickens eyes to calm will prevent the chicken from constantly twisting its head.
Cut the chicken's throat with your toothless knife (no bumps or "teeth" on your knife) by making a quick 1/2-inch cut along the throat. The chicken will die within the next few seconds, as all the blood runs out into your bucket.
