Instructions
Identify all heifers who are within 63 days of slaughter. Separate these heifers from the others for easy identification. These are the heifers that will receive the implant.
Remove the Finaplix-H from the refrigerator and remove the cartridge from the box when you are ready to administer the medication.
Slide the cartridge into the slot at the top of the implanter magazine. Do not remove the cap. The cap should be positioned at the front of the slot during insertion into the implanter. Push down on the implanter until you hear a click. This click will indicate correct placement of the cartridge.
Move one heifer into a holding pen to restrict movement and protect yourself from injury.
Grasp the ear of the heifer. Locate the horizontal middle of the back side of the ear and the top of the cartilage. Wash the area between the horizontal middle of the ear and the top of the cartilage. Rinse off the residue and cleanse the area with alcohol. Allow the area to dry.
Insert the needle fully into the area prepped in step 4. Slowly squeeze the trigger on the implanter until it is fully depressed.
Gently pull back on the implanter until the needle is free from the ear.
Loosen the nut above the needle in a counter-clockwise motion while grasping the middle of the needle. Remove the needle and slide a replacement needle into the nut. Turn the nut clockwise until the needle is firmly held in position.
Repeat steps 3 through 7 for each heifer you wish to administer the medication to.
