How to Use Injectable Ivomec As a Wormer in Rabbits

Ivomec 1 percent is a parasiticide used for treating internal and external parasites. It treats and controls parasites such as lice, grubs and various types of worms. The active ingredient in Ivomec, called Ivermectin, disrupts the parasite's nerve impulses and eventually kills them. Ivomec is originally developed for cattle and swine, but is can be used for other animals as well, such as home pets and rabbits.

Instructions

    • 1

Take your rabbit to your local veterinarian to determine whether your rabbit has parasites. This is very important step. If your rabbit does not have worms and Ivomec is applied, the rabbit could suffer a severe adverse reaction.

    • 2

Weigh your rabbit at home using a small kitchen scale. Make sure that the scale is correct and precise when you weigh your rabbit. Note the weight of your rabbit. The usual amount of Ivomec for rabbits is 1 ml for every 10 lbs. To be sure, consult with your veterinarian or other rabbit breeders before deciding on the final dosage for your rabbit.

    • 3

Inject your rabbit with the Ivomec solution using a syringe. The best spot to inject the Ivomec is at the neck, subcutaneously. Carefully find the skin between the shoulder blades and inject the medicine with the syringe. Wait two weeks before injecting the second dose to your rabbit.

    • 4

Look for the possible contraindications during the two-week waiting period. If there is nothing wrong with your rabbit, give it another dose of Ivomec.

    • 5

Take your rabbit to the veterinarian to determine whether it still has parasites. If there are still traces of worms or other parasites, inject another does of Ivomec after two weeks.
