How to Check Veterinarian Qualifications
Find a vet in your area. If you are going to look up information on your vet, you are probably new to the area or new to the vet. You shouldn’t trust yourself to just any doctor, and the same goes for your pet. Look in the phone book for veterinarians that practice close to you, or keep your eyes open for a practice as you drive around town.
Get as much information about the veterinarian as you can.. Get identity information; at the very least you will need the vet’s first and last name. You can get that out of the phone book as well.
Enter the veterinarian's contact information on the Abike website., which will do a check on veterinarians as well as doctors and other professionals. You may get a number of different results that may or may not be exactly what you want. For a straightforward record on veterinarians, Abika will tell you pertinent information about the specific veterinarian that you would like to know.
Contact your state's veterinary licensing board. Veterinary licensing is done at the state level. Call the board, give them the veterinarian's name and contact information. They will be able to confirm that the vet is licensed and provide other qualifying information.
Ask to see the vet's qualifications. Because veterinarians must go through rigorous training, they are happy to share that information with you. Beware of the vet who is unwilling to give you information about his or her background. Check out the background yourself by contacting the alumni board of the school he says he attended to confirm graduation.
