How to Deworm Heifers and Bulls

Here's how you can de-worm your bulls and heifers in the simplest possible way. De-worming can prove tricky especially if the medicine you have is liquid and the cattle can't be "bribed" to take it like humans. If it's in tablet form, you can just mix them with the meal for the cattle.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Lock your bull or heifer in a tiny enclosure that totally limits its forward or sideways movement, a space that almost grips the body to the side, front and back near the tail.

    • 2

Get one member of the de-worming team lock his fingers on the nose and the lower jaw. Then he should separate the upper jaw by pulling the nose up and the lower jaw down fast.

    • 3

Assuming you want to administer liquid medicine, the one who has the medicine should in a flash slide the bottle on the sides of the jaw, either left or right. If you insert the medicine bottle from the front, you risk pouring it out.

    • 4

The third team member should assist the jaw holder and the medicine administrator by reinforcing their efforts.

    • 5

Then when the medicine is gone, pull out the bottle.

    • 6

Release the heifer/bull and give it a pat on the back.
