1. Endometritis
a) The most common type of uterine infection in cows. Often caused by a bacterial infection that originates in the vagina or cervix and ascends into the uterus.
b) Symptoms include vaginal discharge, fever, and an increased heart rate.
2. Pyometra
a) A type of uterine infection that is characterized by the accumulation of pus in the uterus. Often occurs as a result of endometritis that is not treated promptly or effectively.
b) Symptoms include a persistent vaginal discharge, weight loss, and general weakness.
3. Metritis
a) A severe infection of the uterus that involves both the endometrium and myometrium. Often occurs postpartum, especially if there is retained fetal material or trauma to the uterus during calving.
b) Symptoms include a foul-smelling vaginal discharge, fever, loss of appetite, and a rapid pulse.
