Things You'll Need
- Rake
- Clover seed
- Hose
- Sawdust
- Tape measure
Instructions
Locate the designated area you want to plant the clover and measure off increments of 1,000 sq. ft.. Ideal areas are pastures, fields and yards. The spring and summer seasons are the best times for planting clover. Rake over the entire surface area so the dirt is loose and the seeds can easily seep into the soil.
Plant 8 oz. of clover seeds in each measured increment. Clover seeds are very small and can be difficult to distribute evenly. Sawdust can be mixed with the seeds for easy and even seed distribution over large areas.
Water the seeds daily and keep the soil moist until the plants begin to sprout. After the clover starts sprouting you should have little to no maintenance. Additional watering may be necessary during droughts or in high heat conditions if the clover is damaged.
Send your chickens out to eat in the yard, pasture or designated clover area. Your chickens will be able to graze and eat as much clover as they want without you having to do anything at all.
