Homemade Deer Food With Plants

Whether you have a pet deer or simply like to treat the local wildlife as your own, making homemade deer food is an easy task. Deer eat a variety of plants and gardeners often consider them garden pests. Making homemade deer food with plants allows you to attract them to your yard with sweet botanical scents.

Things You'll Need

  • 1 lb. Rose leaves and petals
  • 1 lb.Apple chunks
  • 1 lb.Carrot chunks
  • 1 lb.Clover
  • 5 lbs.Hay
  • Food processor
  • Feeding trough
  • Pitchfork or rake

      Use a food processor to grind each ingredient individually except the hay, which you will leave intact.

      Add the wet, grated plant materials to a large bucket.

      Line the bottom of a large feeding trough with about 5 lbs. of hay. Any type of feeding hay, such as alfalfa, will do

      Pour the grated plant slop on top of the hay in the trough.

      Use a pitchfork or leaf rake to mix the contents of the trough together. Make sure to fully disperse the grated plants with the dry hay bits. Th plants attract the deer and the apple chunks provide a sweet addition to the rest of the ingredients.
