How to Make Homemade Protein Deer Feeders

If you are looking for an inexpensive way to feed deer, consider making your own homemade protein deer feeder. A gravity feeder is the least expensive way to feed the deer. You can construct a gravity deer feeder with a PVC pipe and a large container. When the deer begin to eat their protein food, the container replenishes with feed stores in the PVC pipe. Since protein is essential to deer's diet, feeding them protein-rich feed will ensure that they stay healthy.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Cut a two-by-three-inch-wide slot at one end of the PVC pipe.

    • 2

Fasten the pipe to the inside of your plastic container. You can do so by screwing the two pieces together with two metal screws and fasteners. Make sure that the slot is facing toward the center of your plastic container.

    • 3

Make five to six small holes in the bottom of the plastic container. This will allow rainwater to drain from the container. Use a small drill bit to make the holes.

    • 4

Strap the deer feeder to a tree or secure post. You can use cable straps, nylon rope or bungee cords. It is important to make sure it is secure; your deer feeder will not be functional if it falls over on its side.

Fill the PVC pipe with protein deer feed. Dried corn is a simple, protein-rich food that deer love.
