Australopithecines were known to hunt animals for food. They used simple stone tools, such as hand axes and cleavers, to butcher their prey. Some of the animals that they hunted include antelopes, gazelles, and wildebeest.
2. Gathering
In addition to hunting, australopithecines also gathered plants and fruits for food. They would have used their hands and simple tools to collect these foods. Some of the plants that they gathered include nuts, berries, and leaves.
3. Scavenging
Australopithecines were also opportunistic scavengers. They would have eaten the remains of animals that were killed by other predators. This would have provided them with a valuable source of food without having to hunt themselves.
4. Cannibalism
There is some evidence to suggest that australopithecines may have also practiced cannibalism. This would have been a last resort, when other sources of food were scarce.
