What does the Tree Kangaroo eat?

The tree kangaroo is an arboreal marsupial that lives in the rainforests of New Guinea. It is a herbivore and its diet consists mainly of leaves, fruits, and flowers. The tree kangaroo is a selective feeder and it chooses its food based on the nutritional value and availability of the plant parts. Some of the plant species that the tree kangaroo consumes include:

- Leaves of various tree species, such as Ficus, Celtis, and Canarium.

- Fruits of rainforest trees, such as figs, wild bananas, and rambutans.

- Flowers of rainforest plants, such as hibiscus and orchids.

- Bark and twigs of certain trees.

- Insects and small animals, such as lizards and frogs (only occasionally).

The tree kangaroo is an important seed disperser in the rainforest ecosystem. It plays a crucial role in maintaining the diversity and regeneration of rainforest plant communities.
