What elevations does the elk live?

Elk typically inhabit mountainous regions and high-altitude forests, ranging in elevation from sea level to over 12,000 feet (3,658 meters). They prefer open areas such as meadows, clearings, and forest edges, but can also be found in dense forests during winter months. Elk migrate seasonally, moving to lower elevations during the winter and higher elevations during the summer.
