Things You'll Need
- Goat shelter
- Watering trough
- Feed trough
- Predator fencing
Instructions
Construct a goat shelter near your house. This is the goat's home base, where it comes to sleep and weather out storms. For smaller breeds, you can use a doghouse; a basic storage shed works well for large breeds. Keep the shelter's floor covered with clean straw for the animal's health.
Place a feeding and watering trough near the goat shelter. The water trough should be cleaned out daily to avoid exposing the animals to harmful bacteria.
Set up predator fencing at your property lines to prevent wolves, bears and coyotes from steeling your goats while they explore.
Keep new goats at the shelter for the first week so they develop a homing instinct for that structure. Once the instinct is developed, let the goats roam free on your property.
