How to Feed Wheat to Goats

Feeding goats is fairly easy, as they like most every edible food there is. Goats like to forage on grass, weeds and natural foliage so as often as possible they should be let out into pasture to roam. If that is not possible during the wintertime, you can feed your goat a main diet of hay and supplement it with wheat as a treat.

Instructions

    • 1

Purchase wheat at a livestock store. It comes in grain form and can be purchased in large bins that you transport to your home or barn. Visit your local farm or feed store which will have all the necessary feed for your goat.

    • 2

Feed your goat wheat in a trough to lure it into the barn for feeding time. The main staple of your goat's diet should be hay, and you should treat grain as a treat or "candy" for your goat. Do not feed your goat too much wheat as it can cause digestive problems. These problems can be dangerous to a goat and possibly even fatal.

Supplement wheat fed to your goat with sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) or a salt lick. Goats need baking soda to keep from getting bloated and salt licks are good for goats to get their daily sodium intake. You can purchase these items at your local farm store.
