How to Bottle Feed Nigerian Dwarf Goats

The Nigerian dwarf goat is a species of goat native to western Africa. These goats are becoming increasingly popular due to their small size and sweet tasting milk, which is higher in both protein and butterfat than most other species of dairy goat. If goat kids are rejected by their mother or you simply prefer to bottle feed them, there are several steps to take to ensure the goat is fed properly.

Instructions

    • 1

Pour goat's milk or goat replacement formula in a medium-sized cooking pot and warm it to about 102 degrees Fahrenheit. Kids will more likely drink warm milk than cold milk.

    • 2

Fill a large bottle with six to eight ounces of warmed milk.

    • 3

Shake the bottle thoroughly to reduce any hot spots in the milk.

    • 4

Gently pry the goat's mouth open with your hand and place the bottle nipple inside its mouth.

    • 5

Hold your hand around the goat's mouth with the bottle nipple inside. Have someone else rub the top of the goat's head with his hand or rub the goat's head with your chin. This simulates the feel of the goat mother's stomach and will help the infant goat become comfortable.

Feed the goat three times a day.
