How to Train a Goat With Bad Manners

The relationship with your goat should be based on respect and trust. This will make the every day interactions rewarding. When goats have bad manners, they must be trained consistently, so they know their behavior is wrong. Goats must be shown that you are dominant, and they must be trained with both negative and positive reinforcement. If goats are prone to fighting or stealing food, the first thing that must be done is to keep them away from those situations.

Instructions

    • 1

Move the goat away to another area if it is doing something you do not want it to do, or if it is stealing food.

    • 2

Say "No" and back up your words with a spray bottle or a squirt gun filled with water. Spray the goat to get it to understand that it has done something wrong.

    • 3

Correct the goat each and every time the bad behavior is displayed. You must be consistent for the goad to learn better manners.

    • 4

Train your goat with treats for good behavior. Offer treats to the goat when it is behaving nicely.

    • 5

Teach the goat the word "Back" by taking a step forward as you give the command. The goat will be gently forced to back up.

    • 6

Do not feed the goat human food as it will then be more likely to get into human food stocks.

    • 7

Separate goats that begin to fight by tying them in different locations.

    • 8

Do not allow the goat to challenge your dominance with pushing and shoving games. Speak to the goat firmly and use negative and positive reinforcement. Establish your dominance at every opportunity.

    • 9

Push goats gently by nudging them when you go near them. If the goat takes up the challenge and pushes back or head butts, grab him firmly by your side until he stops struggling. In case he doesn't push back, reward him with a pat and his favorite treat.
