DIY Goat Hay Barns

To keep your goats healthy and protected, it is important to have a durable hay barn that can shelter them from the elements and prevent other animals from eating their food. Your goat hay barn doesn't need to be complicated to be effective. In fact, a simple structure allows for easy disassembly and relocation without sacrificing size and effectiveness. This shelter will provide adequate shelter for up to 12 mature goats.

Instructions

    • 1

Use your circular saw to cut two pieces of 2-by-4-inch boards, 12 feet long each.

    • 2

Cut two more lengths of 2-by-4-inch boards, this time 10 feet long each.

    • 3

Select a level place to build your goat hay barn. It must have drainage capabilities.

    • 4

Arrange your four boards in a 10-by-12- foot rectangle. This will be your barn's frame.

    • 5

Sit the boards on their 2-inch sides, and screw them together using large wood screws.

    • 6

Drill a 1/2-inch hole all the way through each corner of each board frame. Adjust the frame to your desired position if needed.

    • 7

Use your rubber mallet to hammer one rebar stake through each hole to hold your frame in place.

    • 8

Bend one cattle panel to make a ring, and slide it between the two 12-foot sides of your frame. Slide the ring to the front of your frame.

    • 9

Bend another cattle panel, and slide it to the back of your frame.

    • 10

Bend your third cattle panel, and place it between the sides so it overlaps with the other two panels.

    • 11

Use fence staples to attach the panels to the frame.

    • 12

Drape your tarpaulin over the panels. Adjust the tarpaulin so it hangs evenly over each side.

    • 13

Tie the tarpaulin to the panels as tightly as you can, using bailing twine.
