The Weaknesses of Nubian Goats

Nubian and Anglo-Nubian goats are a breed with roots in England, Egypt and India. Their high-quality milk makes them excellent dairy goats. However, they are also sometimes used for meat and hide production. They have distinct facial features, a large size and considerable intelligence. This breed is one of the most common in the United States.
  1. Less Milk

    • Compared to other breeds of dairy goats, Nubian goats produce less milk on average. However, the milk is of high quality, with a high butterfat content of 5% or more. Nubian goats are also able to produce milk year round because of their extended breeding season.

    Highly Vocal

    • Nubian goats are very vocal animals compared to many other breeds of goats. When they make excessive noise it is usually because some need is going unmet, such as food or water, or that they are in heat.

    Herd Animals

    • Because Anglo-Nubians are herd animals, avoid having just one. They are social and fond of humans. It is possible to keep them as lone pets as long as they have plenty of human interaction.

    Climate

    • Though Nubian goats are adaptable to very hot temperatures because of their origins in the Middle East, they are not fond of cold and wet climates. As a result, it is important to have good shelter such as a stable or barn.
