How to Mix a Boric Acid Eye Solution for Goats

Like humans, goats are also susceptible to conjunctivitis or pink eye. Conjunctivitis in goats can be non-infectious or caused by a bacterial infection. Goats commonly infected with pink eye through flies landing on the drainage from their eye, and then landing on another goat. Eye solution made with boric acid is known as an effective home remedy for conjunctivitis in both humans and animals. All utensils used to make a boric acid eye solution should be sterilized in boiling water.

      Boil 1 quart of water for 10 minutes to sterilize the water.

      Let the water cool completely.

      Add 1 tbsp of boric acid to the sterilized water and then stir with a sterile spoon to mix.

      Apply the boric acid eye solution to the goat using an eyedropper; or wash the goat's eyes with a cotton ball soaked in the eye solution. If you are using an eyedropper, gently pull down on the goat's lower eye lid and apply two to three drops of boric acid eye solution to each eye.

      Treat the goat's eyes two to three times per day, until the conjunctivitis resolves completely.
