How to Feed Goats Bread

Although goats prefer forage such as hay and pasture as their primary source of energy and nutrition, occasional bread snacks make a welcome addition to their regular diet. Both white bread and whole wheat bread are acceptable options, as well as specialty breads, such as rye bread, banana bread, carrot bread and apple bread. Although goats aren't picky and they often enjoy munching on stale bread, avoid giving them moldy bread, which can make them sick.

Instructions

    • 1

Feed bread slices to the goats by hand. Tear each slice of bread into several smaller pieces and hold each chunk of bread out to your goat's mouth so it can eat the bread from your hand. Minimize potential digestive upset by feeding no more than two slices of bread to each goat in a 24-hour period.

Blend bread with vegetables to create a nutritious forage-based treat. Pull apart a slice of bread into four to six pieces and put it on a paper plate. Top the bread chunks with small pieces of raw celery, carrots, pumpkin, spinach or lettuce. Pour the contents of the paper plate into your goat's feeding bucket.

Mix bread with a handful of raisins, dried cranberries or grapes. Tear the bread into small, bite-sized pieces. Blend the bread with an equal amount of the selected fruit and put it in your goat's feed bucket or feed it to your goat by hand.
