Instructions
Start handling the goat at as early an age as possible because the older the goat gets without being tamed the more wild and the less trusting it will be. Be present at the birth of the goat if possible as this will allow the animal to become used to you from the beginning.
Sit in the presence of the goat only once it has settled into its environment if you have purchased a goat that is not already used to people. Take a nonthreatening position by looking away from the goat. Take a book to read, as this will keep you entertained while you wait for the goat's natural curiosity to take over, which could take a long time if the goat is not used to people. Be patient and repeat this exercise on a daily basis until you gain the goat's trust.
Reward the goat for approaching you with small food treats, such as raisins, apple slices and corn chips. Stroke the goat gently as you feed it to allow it to get used to being handled.
Avoid chasing the goat at any time during the taming process so it doesn't feel like it's being chased by a predator.
