How to Milk a Nigerian Dwarf Goat

The Nigerian dwarf goat is widely regarded for having delicious milk, perhaps due to its high content of butterfat. Nigerian dwarf goat-milk offers a taste and consistency unlike milk from any other mammal, and can be consumed on its own, in cheese or in ice cream. The milking process is essentially the same as that utilized with other goats.

Instructions

    • 1

Dip the goat's teats in a paper cup full of water. Wipe them clean with a dry, paper towel.

    • 2

Place a short stool on the side of the goat from which you prefer to milk. Sit down on the stool and get comfortable.

    • 3

Grab the top of a teat, directly against the udder. Squeeze the teat firmly with your thumb, forefinger and middle finger. Squeeze tightly enough to feel pressure within the teat.

    • 4

Squeeze downward on the teat, maintaining a constant pressure. The milk will spray out if the teat is squeezed with adequate pressure.

    • 5

Move your hand back to the starting position, and repeat the squeezing process. Do this five times on each teat, and examine the milk as it sprays out. The milk should be free of clots and blood.

    • 6

Put a stainless steel pail beneath the teats after the initial milk examination. Repeat the milking motion on each teat until the goat no longer gives milk.
