Mountain goats prefer rugged areas at elevations of 4,000 to 11,500 ft (1,219 to 3,505 m), so their range is primarily mountainous western North America (U.S. states in the Rocky Mountains including ID, MT, WY; Canadian provinces of BC and AB).
