Place the goat in a small pen or tie it to a fence or post. Goats do not typically enjoy being sheared and may try to escape. Use a hand to hold the goat steady and to keep it from shifting around too much.
Using shears with on a 1/2-inch or 3/4-inch guard, trim the hair off the goat's body. Make sure it is an even shear, leaving no patchy spots or visible lines.
Trim the goat's udder without a guard. Go slowly and be extremely careful, as the shears can cut or burn the goat, causing discomfort and leaving visible marks on the udder.
Brush and groom the goat to smooth out the remaining hair. Perform a final inspection and snip off any remaining long hair.
