Things You'll Need
- Goat shampoo (horse shampoo works well, too)
- Goat or horse hair polish or conditioner
- Bucket
- Goat halter
- Leash
- Towel
- Grooming comb
Instructions
Fill a bucket with warm water.
Tether your goat to a sturdy fixture, like a fencepost.
Pour half of the warm water over the back of your goat, starting at the base of the head and working your way down to the tail.
Squirt a silver-dollar sized amount of shampoo into your palm. Rub your hands together and lather the goat, following a path similar to the one made when pouring the water.
Rub the goat's hair in circular motions with your fingertips. Add more water or shampoo when necessary. Remember to lather the underside and legs of the goat, as well as its chest.
Pour the rest of the warm water over the goat. Work the water into the goat's hair. Refill the bucket as many times as necessary to drench the coat of the goat and rinse it free of shampoo. You may condition the goat's coat at this time, if desired.
Towel the goat vigorously, head to tail. Allow the animal to air dry in the sun.
Re-tether the goat when its hair is dry.
Brush the goat with a grooming brush, head to tail. Make sure to dust off loose hairs. Brush first in circular motions with a firm-bristle brush, then again lengthwise, with the grain of the hair, moving from the base of the head to the tail, along the goat's side, chest, legs and abdomen.
Finish the hair with a horse or goat polish to add shine and softness.
