Instructions
Trimming a Wool Cap
Brush the wool on top of the head with warm soapy water. The warm soapy water will help loosen the lanolin, making it easier to comb the wool fibers apart. Be careful not to let water get into the sheep's eyes.
Card the wool until the fibers are pulled apart from each other. Sheep with lots of longer wool on their heads should look like they have an afro. Sheep with shorter or less wool on their heads will appear more fuzzy.
Lightly spray the wool with the spray bottle to keep the lanolin from solidifying.
Trim the wool around the ears all the way down to the skin to give a clean look.
Lay the shears at an angle on the wool and trim the tips of the wool from the front of the head to the back. Do not lift the shears off and make single cuts; instead, trim the wool while slowly moving the shears across the wool. This will prevent uneven cuts.
Card the wool out a second time to look for uneven wool fibers. Trim the wool until it appears dense and uniform on the top and sides. The sides should appear rounded and not jagged or shaggy.
