Insulin is a hormone produced in the pancreas, a gland located in the abdomen. It regulates blood sugar levels.
Historically, insulin for treating diabetes was extracted from the pancreases of cows and pigs. This practice has largely been replaced by synthetic insulin which is produced through recombinant DNA technology. This means that insulin is now produced in bacteria that have been genetically engineered to produce human insulin.
Urine is a waste product and does not contain insulin.
