Things You'll Need
- Grain mill
- Storage container
Instructions
Gather the appropriate amount of oats and legumes that your grain mill owner's manual recommends. Depending on the size of your grain mill, some might allow small or large amounts per grind.
Locate a steady surface, and clamp the grain mill to the edge of the surface. A countertop, tabletop or work bench that are steady and secure are the best options. Turn the clamp clockwise to secure the grain mill to the stable surface.
Review your grain mills owner's manual to indicate if your grain mill offers different settings. For feed, the setting should be adjusted to "Fine," if possible.
Place either the oats or the legumes into the grain mill first. To prevent damage to the grain mill or your feed, do not exceed the amount that the owner's manual recommends.
Slide a storage container, or bowl, under the chute of the grain mill that will fit the amount of feed you are grinding.
Grasp the hand crank and begin to turn it. You may need to turn the crank slowly and steadily to allow the feed to grain properly, depending on your grain mill.
Watch the feed as it fills the container to ensure it is the appropriate size that you prefer for your pigs. If the grain is not fine enough, run it through the grain mill again.
Store the feed in a dry, airtight container to prevent mold or bugs.
