Instructions
Hold the piglet upright with its belly against your chest or shoulder. It may squirm a little. Give the piglet a moment to get comfortable.
Rub the piglet on the back with slow up-and-down motions. Don't press down too hard; just enough to stimulate a burp. Stop when you hear or notice the piglet burping.
Pat the piglet lightly on its back. This works as an alternative to encourage a burp. You can also place the piglet on the ground and let it stand while you pat it.
How to Burp a Piglet
When piglets are bottle fed, they tend to swallow some air while sucking formula that gets trapped in their stomach. Babies of all species need help to release this trapped air as it can be uncomfortable and even interfere with the digestive process. Piglets are no different from humans while bottle fed or burped. Hold the piglet firmly, but gently and rub or pat its back until it burps.
