How to Calm Down a Wild Piglet

When piglets are trained as pets, you can't train them in the same way you would a dog because you must cater to a piglet's needs when they act out. A piglet running wild needs your help to calm down, so remain patient and understand what its needs are. Always monitor your piglet for triggers -- if it tends to go wild or misbehave when you load it into a vehicle, for example, approach the situation from a different angle to adjust your pig's behavior.

Things You'll Need

  • Baby blanket or old t-shirt

Instructions

    • 1

Cover your piglet with a blanket if it is acting wild. Pig's have a strong sense of smell, and might be comforted by your scent. Try using a blanket or a T-shirt that you have worn.

    • 2

Coax your piglet into moving the way you want it to. If you run up to a piglet and try to grab it, it will become nervous and run from you. Instead, use snacks and positive encouragement to convince the piglet to do what you want it to do and go where you want it to go.

Pick your piglet up slowly. When you try to pick up your piglet and it goes wild, try again, allowing the piglet to come to you. Start slowly by luring the piglet into your lap with a small treat, or by scratching its back and belly. When you lift your piglet, support its feet to help it remain calm and feel secure.
