How to Install Hog Pig Rings

Hog pig rings get their name from their original intended use as means to prevent pigs or hogs from rooting. Using their noses to root can cause damage to pens and fences. With rings placed in its nose, a pig or hog cannot root. However, hog pig rings have also found use in upholstery, fencing and other home and farm uses that require a metal connection. With a few steps, installing hog pig rings is a simple process.

Instructions

    • 1

Hold a U-shaped hog pig ring by the sides with one hand and a pair of ring pliers in the other.

    • 2

Open the grooved jaws of the pliers and slide them around the U-shaped hog pig ring. Position the ring completely into the jaws of the ring pliers and apply slight pressure to the pliers so that the ring is held in place.

    • 3

Place the two end points of the hog pig ring on either side of a hog's nostril. Place the points around other objects such as sections of wire fencing or upholstery.

    • 4

Squeeze the handles of the ring pliers together to crimp the points of the ring together. Crimp the end points of the ring into the nostril of the pig and stop. Continue crimping the ring so the points overlap if working with objects such as fencing or upholstery.

Repeat the ring installation process for as many rings that are needed.
