What is a baby calf?

A baby calf is the young of a domestic cow or bull, usually born after a gestation period of around nine months. Calves are born with a creamy or yellowish coat that changes color as they grow older, depending on the breed of the cow. When a calf is born, it is called a ‘calf’ or ‘calf offspring’ until the time it reaches an age of a few months. They are often marked or tagged to identify their parentage and date of birth. They begin to graze on pasture and gradually transition from feeding on milk to solid food. Calves are nurtured and cared for by the mother cow, often in herds. Baby calves are considered adorable and playful animals and are often used as symbols of youth, innocence, and springtime in various cultures.
