* Tools and Animals: Slaves were responsible for using and maintaining the tools and animals necessary for farming, including plows, axes, and work animals like horses and mules.
While there were other laborers in the South, like free Black people and white indentured servants, slavery was the dominant form of labor and therefore the most significant contributor to bringing work tools and animals to Southern agriculture.
