Instructions
Search your telephone book's advertising section for animal adoption, shelters, rescue and foster homes; horse and/or equine rescue, shelters, foster homes or adoptions; local stables or horse-boarding facilities. Be sure to look in the government listings for your county's animal shelter. Write down the names of each and their telephone numbers. Starting with any horse or equine listings and stables, call and ask if they will take your donkey.
Go to petfinder.com and select "Horse" under "Search for a pet." Type "donkey" and your zip code in the appropriate blanks. Your search will yield a listing of organizations and individuals that rescue, adopt or foster donkeys. Click on each to obtain contact information, then call with your inquiry.
Visit your local pet stores, feed stores and tack shops where you can post an index card with a description of your donkey. Ask the owners, managers and employees if they know anyone who might take your donkey. Collect business cards of local stables or horse-boarding facilities.
Call each of the numbers on the business cards you collected and ask if any of the stables can take your donkey. If the answer is no, ask if they can recommend any other stables or boarding facilities that might.
Post your donkey on craigslist.org, where you can buy, sell, or give away almost anything. Be sure to update your listing every three or four days so that it remains near the top, where it will be one of the first items to be seen.
Search online for people who breed, raise and train donkeys. Call and ask if any will take your donkey.
Locate any children's riding camps in your area and ask if they will consider pasturing your donkey with their horses.
Contact the zoos in your area and ask if they have a children's petting area and will take your donkey for this exhibit.
