Sell the emu at a local farm auction or in a farm classifieds paper. Many people are starting to expand their farm livestock and are adding emus to their stock of farm animals.
Donate your emu to a local zoo. Small zoos, in particular, usually have farm animals in a petting zoo area for small children.
Butcher your emu and either eat or sell the meat and render the fat into oil. The oil of the emu is highly recommended for many skin conditions and is used in lotions, creams and soaps. The meat of an emu is high in iron and is 97 percent fat free. It is listed by the American Heart Association among its heart-healthy meats.
How to Get Rid of an Emu
An emu is a flightless bird similar to an ostrich. An emu can grow as tall as 6 feet and weighs up to 120 pounds. Most emus are friendly, assuming they are raised properly. However, if they were not well-socialized as youngsters, they can injure a person trying to catch or contain them with their sharp claws. Some people find they cannot handle an emu; if you need to get rid of yours, you have several options.
