How to Get Rid of Squirrels Around My Chickens

Squirrels commonly visit areas where chickens live. Most are just passing through, but some eventually find chicken food and chicken eggs appealing. Squirrels do not pose a big threat to chickens, however, because the birds are able to deter them.

Instructions

Use an animal trap to capture squirrels. Any size trap will work, but small traps are manufactured. Set the trap away from where a chicken would get caught. Bait the trap with sunflower seeds.

Squirrels prefer seeds and sunflower seeds to chicken feed and eggs. Provide a squirrel feeder away from the coop. Only feed the seeds or sunflower seeds to the chickens when the birds are inside or only feed as much as the birds can clean up to prevent squirrels from gathering.

Repellents can be used to deter the squirrels. Purchase a squirrel repellent and apply it to the area where the squirrels are not wanted.
