4-H Beef Poster Ideas

Every year, thousands of young people all across the US choose to create beef posters, either just for their 4-H group, for a contest or for a fair. The posters are often generated starting at grade 3, and are broken into three levels: Level 1 (grades 4-6), Level 2 (grades 7-9), Level 3 (grades 10-12). The key with the poster is, whatever topic is chosen, the poster MUST present beef and beef products in a positive way.

    • Beef Cuts

Level 1 ideas are designated for grades 4-6. Poster ideas for level 1 may include beef breeds and origins, cattle by-products, care of animals, beef body parts, retail beef cuts.

    Level 2 Ideas

    • Cattle feed

Level 2 ideas are designated for grades 7-9. Poster ideas for level 2 may include feed rations and digestion, identification, cattle behavior, diseases and animal safety.

    Level 3 Ideas

    • Breeding

Level 3 ideas are designated for grades 10-12. Poster ideas for level 3 may include beef promotion, breeding and selection, sire summaries, agricultural carriers and beef enterprise budgeting.

    Presentation

    • For a poster, you want to make sure that everything is clear. Too much information and visuals are not a good idea. Stick to the topic chosen. Use pictures from magazines or clip-art. Try using colored poster paper with contrasting colors for writing.
