How to Determine the Voltage for Pet Fencing
Unpack the electric fence voltage reader and check for any defects such as a cut wire or casing damage. If you find any damage return it immediately and do not use it for your safety from possible shock.
Put on the rubber insulated gloves to help prevent you from possibly getting shocked. Grab the probe by the plastic end only and insert the metal portion of the probe into the ground near the electric fence.
Attach the hook that's connected to the electric fence tester onto the electric fence wire. Be careful not to touch any metal on the voltage reader or on anything else while you are attaching the hook to the wire.
Look at your voltage reader and note voltage displayed by the LED lights. If you do not have a voltage reading or if your LED lights don't come on, there may be a connection problem with the fence. Your voltage reading will vary depending on the type of fence that you have and the voltage required for the size of your pets. Base your voltage reading off the manufacturer's requirements for your electric fence charger.
Remove the hook from the wire and remove the probe from the ground.
