Instructions
Select a flat area to place the mini goat barn. The barn should not be placed on an incline or hillside, as it needs to set level. It should also be placed away from items such as rocks or large stumps, which the goats may use to climb onto and reach the roof and escape. Remove any high grass and create a dirt base for the ground inside the shelter with a shovel.
Construct a 6-foot by 6-foot frame for the barn by cutting 2-inch by 10-inch boards with a table saw into a desired length for the base. Cut four additional 2-inch by 10-inch boards 6-foot tall for the standing corners of the frame. Screw the frame together using 1-inch wood screws. Place the frame on the ground where the barn will stand. Screw 6-foot long plywood sheets along the frame's backside and two sides. Leave a 2-foot opening on the front to be used as the doorway space.
Cut six 2-inch by 10-inch boards 6-foot long and screw them along the top of the frame every foot. Apply the boards horizontally so they resemble rafters. Place plywood on top of the rafters and screw it down. Screw a 2-inch by 10-inch board in the middle of the roof and apply tin roofing to the plywood. The extra board will ensure the roof is slanted which will help in rain runoff. Screw the tin roofing down and place caulking around the screws to prevent any water leakage.
Screw in the door hinges on the outside wall next to the doorway. Place one hinge near the top and one near the bottom. Cut the door from a piece of plywood. Screw the other end of the hinges onto the door so it opens outward from the barn. Drill an eye hook onto the opposite side of the door. Place an eye screw on the wall that reaches the hook. This will be used to latch the door at night.
Paint the mini barn with a coating or two of exterior paint. Place down a layer of bedding for the goats inside the barn in one of the corners. Place a bucket of water and feeding bin along the wall as well.
