Livestock Assistance Grant Program

Cattle farmers who have suffered forage production losses as a result of drought may be eligible for a livestock assistance grant. The program mainly offers assistance to individuals recovering losses from a drought for such expenses as the cost of relocating livestock, emergency water supplies, supplemental feeding and feed transportation costs. Producers can receive a maximum of $10,000 from their state's grant program. For more information contact your local Farm Service Agency (FSA).

The North Central Region's Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education has grants are awarded for a variety of initiatives, such as efforts to boost profitability, enhance communities or protect natural resources. Individual ranchers may receive up to $6000, while groups of three or more ranchers may receive up to $18,000.

Livestock Compensation Program

Producers of cattle and other livestock such as sheep, buffalo, and goats who have been impacted by natural disasters are eligible for the Livestock Compensation Program grants. Payment is made per head for cattle that were owned for at least 90 days during the disaster, with payment varying from $13.50 to $18.00 per head. The program is administered by the Department of Agriculture's Farm Service Agency. Contact your local FSA for more information.
