Things You'll Need
- Self-tapping screws
- Screwdriver
- Wire
Instructions
Install at least one self-tapping screw at a convenient height above the area to be repaired. Depending on the size of the break and the type of material, you might want to use more than one screw. Leave about 1/4-inch of the screw exposed.
Wrap a length of wire around the broken piece. Tighten the wire as much as possible to keep if from slipping when you lift the broken piece back into place. Leave a generous length of the wire available.
Lift the broken piece into place. Wrap the loose end of the wire around the partially exposed screw. This will hold the broken area secure temporarily. Depending on the type of material the farm gate was constructed of, this could last for a long time. You can also use more wire to address other areas that might need to be secured. On a wooden gate, you might need to use two screws and two sets of wire to hold a broken board in place.
