What must animals in the interidal zone adapt to?

Intertidal animals have adapted to the constant changes in their environment. They must be able to tolerate waves, currents, and tides, exposure to air during low tide, desiccation, temperature fluctuations, salinity changes, and predation. Many intertidal animals have specialized structures or behaviors to help them cope with these challenges, such as burrowing, clinging to rocks, or having a thick skin that helps retain moisture.
