What colors did the Inca tribe use?

Black - Represented night, death, the earth, sorrow and mourning. Black dyes were made by boiling fruit of a type of tree called "tara."

White - Represented purity, fertility and joy. White dyes were derived from the cochineal insect and ashes.

Grey - Represented humility. Obtained from mixing black and white.

Red - Represented power and nobility, and was the only color reserved for Inca high-ranking officials and priests. Red dye was made from the cochineal insect. This bright red color was achieved by boiling the dried and ground cochineal insects with a mineral.

Yellow - Represented the sun, the most revered deity in the Incan Empire. To make yellow dye they extracted pollen or resins from flowers, fruits and other botanical sources.

Green - Symbolized nature and fertility. Obtained by mixing yellow with blue

Blue - Represented water and the sky. Indigo was the most used blue color, and a blue dye was extracted from the woad plant.

Purple - Symbolized nobility, as it was obtained by mixing red and blue dyes.
