How to Dress a Cow

Whether it's for the science fair or the newest cheese commercial, sometimes you need to know how to dress a cow. You should never leave a cow in clothing for a long period of time, as safety should always be a concern when working with large animals. Because cows appear to be harmless, it is easy to overlook how much damage can be done when a cow is frightened. Only add dressings to a well-reared cow that is familiar with and calm around people.

Instructions

    • 1

Approach the cow carefully. Unless she is familiar with you or has been dressed up before, she can be very skittish. Using a halter, loosely tie the cow to a fence or rail. Having grain or hay for her to eat can distract and occupy her until you are done.

    • 2

Place a tie on the cow by first clipping one end of the tie to the elastic strip. Lay the strip over the cow's neck and clip the tie to the other side of the strip. The tie should lay down the front of the cow without being tight on her neck.

    • 3

Drape a cape over the cow's shoulders, letting it rest spread out across her back. Secure the Velcro tabs just in front of her chest. Do not attempt to loop anything around her legs.

    • 4

Add a skirt similar to the cape, but the skirt should spread out over the cow's rump without draping down the tail or back end. Attach the Velcro tabs at her belly. This piece must not be tight around her or you can cause medical problems in her digestive system.

    • 5

Once the occasion or event in which you needed the cow to wear clothes has passed, remove the garments immediately. This can be done by supplying the cow with something to eat to distract her while you remove the clothing.
