* Insects: Crickets, mealworms, grasshoppers, beetles, ants, and other insects are the staple food of hoglets.
* Worms: Earthworms and other types of worms are also a favourite.
* Small invertebrates: Snails, slugs, spiders, and other small invertebrates are part of their diet.
* Occasionally, they might also eat:
* Small amphibians like frogs or toads
* Small reptiles like lizards
* Bird eggs
* Berries and fruits (in small quantities)
Important note: Hoglets are extremely vulnerable in their first few weeks of life and rely entirely on their mother for food and care. They are weaned at about 6-8 weeks old, but it is crucial to ensure that they have access to a balanced diet of high-protein insects and invertebrates.
If you find a baby hedgehog, do not attempt to feed it yourself. Contact a wildlife rehabilitator or animal rescue organization for help.
