What can you feed a groundhog?

While groundhogs are primarily herbivores, they have a diverse diet in the wild.

Here's what you can safely feed a groundhog, if you ever come across one in need of help:

* Grasses: Timothy hay, clover, alfalfa, and other common lawn grasses.

* Vegetables: Carrots, celery, spinach, lettuce, and other leafy greens.

* Fruits: Apples, pears, berries, and melons (in moderation).

* Wild plants: Dandelions, clover, and other common wild plants.

Important notes:

* Avoid feeding groundhogs anything that is toxic to them: This includes chocolate, onions, garlic, avocado, and rhubarb.

* Don't feed them table scraps: This can lead to health problems.

* Avoid feeding them processed foods: These lack the nutrients they need and can be unhealthy.

* Provide fresh water: Always ensure that a groundhog has access to clean, fresh water.

* Don't overfeed them: This can lead to obesity.

* Consider consulting a wildlife rehabilitator: If you find a groundhog that seems injured or sick, it's best to contact a wildlife rehabilitator for advice.

It's important to remember that groundhogs are wild animals and should be observed from a distance. Feeding them can create a dependence on humans and may make them more vulnerable to predators.
