What do baby wolverines eat?

Baby wolverines, also known as kits, are primarily fed by their mother. Their diet consists mainly of:

* Mother's milk: This is their primary food source for the first few months of their lives. Wolverine mothers are known for their fierce protectiveness and dedication to their young.

* Pre-killed prey: The mother will bring back partially eaten carcasses of animals she has hunted, such as:

* Small mammals: Mice, voles, rabbits, squirrels

* Birds: Grouse, ptarmigan, ducks

* Larger prey: Moose, caribou, deer (depending on the size of the mother and the availability of prey)

The mother will tear the meat into smaller pieces for the kits to eat. This process teaches them how to hunt and eat.

It's important to note that wolverines are scavengers as well as hunters, so they will also consume carrion they find in the wild.

As the kits grow older (around 6-8 months), they will start to accompany their mother on hunts and learn to kill and eat their own prey. This process is crucial for their survival as they will need to be independent by the time they reach one year old.
