What eats bagworms?

Bagworms are a common pest, and many predators enjoy feasting on them! Here are some of the most common:

Birds:

* Chickadees: They love to pick off bagworms from trees and shrubs.

* Downy Woodpeckers: These woodpeckers will peck into the bags to get at the larvae inside.

* Nuthatches: These birds often inspect branches and glean bagworms from them.

* Titmice: Like chickadees, these birds are great at finding and consuming bagworms.

* Wrens: They'll forage through foliage for bagworms, especially the young ones.

Insects:

* Praying Mantises: They're voracious predators, and bagworms are a favorite meal.

* Lacewings: These beneficial insects will feed on the eggs and larvae of bagworms.

* Parasitic Wasps: Some wasps will lay their eggs inside the bagworm's cocoon, and the wasp larvae will eat the bagworm larva.

* Ground Beetles: They will scavenge on the ground for bagworm larvae.

* Ladybugs: While they primarily feed on aphids, they'll also eat some bagworm eggs.

Other:

* Small mammals: Mice, squirrels, and other small mammals may eat bagworms.

* Spiders: They can capture and eat bagworms in their webs.

Encouraging these predators by planting native plants, providing nesting boxes, and avoiding pesticide use can help keep bagworm populations under control naturally!
